I just watched the Ubisoft Forward event and I can't help but have a ton of different emotions. As a very long time fan of the series reveals like Mirage and Hexe got me extremely excited. Mirage showed a plethora of gameplay mechanics us classic fans have been searching for since Unity. But at the same time, one gaming franchise showing off three triple A (AAA) titles, a mobile game, and briefly speaking on a Netflix show can be concerning.
This franchise is very important to me and although I'm excited I'm also nervous. I want it to return to its roots but I can't help but feel like Mirage is just……well a mirage. I'm on board for now and have to admit the entire trailer got me hyped up. But my emotional reaction is still unclear. I go back and forth every second and need more context to be content. I have hopes for the narrative direction of the franchise and the gameplay mechanics to follow.
If you are a fan of the series I'd love to get your input outside of just how awesome the cinematic trailer was. Ubisoft did it again. They got me hooked. But the lack of gameplay is concerning and I will remain in the middle. Hopeful yet optimistic.
With Gotham Knights launch approaching I've been skeptical. The game doesn't look all that great and the reviews for those who have had gameplay experience isn't pleasing. I've recently been re-playing the Arkham games, more specifically Arkham Origins. I chose Origins due to my recent start in conducting game reviews on YouTube and I like that this game is the "confusing one" within its franchise. Most people I talk to call it either the worst of the series or the most underrated one. I like to look at these games that separate themselves from their franchise and ask a simple question.......why? Why is THIS game the one that's split down the middle.
I'm not very far into my playthrough, mainly focussed on Horizon Forbidden West......damn thing is addicting, but I remember thinking the game is the worst of the series but still good. Although that statement still stands thus far, I'm enjoying it more than I remember. It's a younger more out of control Bruise Wayne who is over confidant yet seems well trained enough to do so. He kicks the hell out of everyone and the interrogation scenes are brutal and intimidating. On the other hand this Batman doesn't fit as well with the Batman that takes place in the rest of the series.
The more I play this game, the more I realized it was the happy medium in the series. It has an ok story with decent bosses and the boss fights themselves are quite fun. Origins is another game that fell to the hype for criticism. It followed Arkham City, which is my favorite of the series, and that's a hard act to follow.
I did the same thing with Assassin's Creed Unity and loved it. I guess the point is games like these get overlooked because of outside sources. Media spreads it's flaws like wildfire and suddenly these games are unplayable. As players I believe we need to stop playing games due to the words given by mainstream critics. This is why I wanted to hop on the YouTube review bandwagon. These extensive reviews from actual fans give a great perspective to how the game actually plays.
Always get your hands on the game and spread both the good and bad qualities. Gotham Knights looks suspicious and I'm not sure it'll be good. But I will get my own opinion and hope for the best. The point of this short ramble is to just enjoy games as you play them. Don't jump into the hype.
