The season is basically done and most football fans are already waiting for the upcoming FIFA 23. I wanted to briefly look into EA's latest football game and see if they are headed in the right direction this gen thus far. I must say I am no longer a football fan for a long time now so I am mostly out of touch with what's happening in that world. Players I used to enjoy watching have mostly hung up their boot's. I also want to be very brief than before and for videos on this review please go to home menu within the blog and access our Instagram or Twitter. We begin GGS (graphics, gameplay, story):
Graphics
Not much can be said nor taken away here, the game definitely shines in every respect with minimal clipping. I did see one oversight though whereby a players beard can show through the oppositions net during player celebrations. Its not a big deal but I would want that cleaned up. Overall I am satisfied as most players really look themselves in comparison to real life even the general stadium atmosphere, the fans, coaches its just a joy to behold. Added to this the brilliant menu soundtrack caps it all to a great experience.
Gameplay
To be fair its an improvement from last years FIFA. I enjoyed the game speed and general playability though I took a hiding from friend and colleague Aasif while he was using his favorite team. Unfortunately I did not do the recordings of our matches. It also served as a reminder that I am really out of touch with football :) . Still on this FIFA still does something that e-Football PES does better, that fluidity in gameplay. The defense in particular is basically bad. I understand that there's a lot of tweaks one can do to balance out the gameplay or rather tailor it to your liking however my experience with tactical defending and legacy defending was not good. When I toggled the options it still felt largely the same as my players spent most of the time puzzled as to whether they should go take the ball or wait for my instructions.
With that said it raises another problem I feel about FIFA which is most of the times players do knuckle shots whenever scoring you have to hold R1(PlayStation) or RB(Xbox) to do what's called a finesse shot. I find this ridiculous to my liking because it seems FIFA is a game where in everything you have to instruct the animation to react in a certain way as opposed to having the AI replicate real player movement or footwork. For this I have a video I want to share with you whereby you see Ronaldo on FIFA compared to Ronaldo on PES, the PES Ronaldo is more authentic but again even e-Football PES is not my favorite especially these days and I will be looking into it soon. I did hear they made some improvements. The following video was not made by me nor is it from our channel its by WININING ID I found it very well done have a look:
you will see that pes captures the true authentic connection of the football and Ronaldos's free kick foot style which FIFA does not at all.
In a nutshell the gameplay still needs to be worked on, I am not impressed however I could at least play.
Story
FIFA does have interesting story modes one can delve into which give you the vibes of real world football. I did not spend much time on these as my interest is mainly Manager Career mode but nonetheless this gives the game a variety for those interested. Volta football is also a very much interesting mode to spend time on with friends, its been there yes but feels improved.
Conclusion
Graphics: great
Gameplay: still needs to improve but headed in the right direction
Story: variety of game modes satisfactory
Overall: if you are a football fan I recommend you buy this
