Dragon's Dogma 2: A game TO NOT BUY

Released: 21 March 2024

Publisher:Capcom

Platforms:PS5,SX & S,PC

I am not even happy to be writing this at all but let's get to it. The above video from Gamers Nexus will give you more context of what i will be complaining about so be sure to also check them out on gaming PC related content hardware etc they are one of my go to channels. I am not promoting them or anything they don't know me but just as a reference for you incase you have never come across them.

Graphics

Sigh... ok graphics not good. They are not anything special by any means and not anything a PS4 player would be charmed about and the primary reason for this which we will get to later is because of the performance. It's terrible. Ok some positives: at least the Ray Tracing is well executed making the game lighting one of the best. Even if you play Dragons Dogma Dark arisen you can see they always did that lighting right. You can see the potential for proper textures but the failure to optimize the game hammers all that out, for example at times your character ingame facial features in the city at one point just blur out even without motion blur because your GPU by that time will be on a picnic.

Textures look great when editing your character but when in game it turns to nothing (For more on this please check our socials). I have never been so drained to review a game and trying to find positives about it. Sigh...Before i leave this topic i want to say I am also irritated by the shill players I see online praising this game none stop as if everything is all good. Guys its your money don't simp for corporations they don't know you, you are just a number and they want your wallet that's it.

Let's get something clear here the best gameplay you can experience this generation might just be this game. There is a fair degree of ingenuity in terms of creativity as to how you play executing your enemies and just a tone of none stop action. I have to commend them here but let's get to that old fat elephant in the room: performance.Whatever the game has turns to absolute garbage because no matter the framerate and hardware and even graphics settings nothing will help you. I like to lock my single player games to a specific framerate on PC but minimum frame rate being 60fps. I did that but i am no better than someone playing it at 30fps because we all go down to 27fps which is the lowest I saw. Its 2024 and we are still talking of sub 30fps.

Here is what's happening when you are traversing the game world your gpu will be at work and your cpu says goodbye sort yourself out. There is no cohesion between the two i.e optimization.

As soon as you enter the city your GPU says ok I am out goodluck then no matter what CPU you have you get hammered while your gpu is watching the bloodbath. Nothing saves you and please don't upgrade for this game you will waste your money. Either wait for a Capcom fix or don't buy.

Story

I have nothing to say I stopped playing waiting for a fix.

This is an example of when a corporation does not care at all for the consumer, tosses out an unfinished project and collects revenue in the process. I want to make this clear, had the game been optimized well it stands to be GOTY this year however since its not fixed whatever goody goodies it has for you turn to absolutely nothing. It's a total mess. It's like a hot car without wheels. I will certainly come back and re-review this if fixed. I tried to wait for at least a Capcom hot fix but it seems like they are not bothered (check their twitter account and dragons dogma too). They have their shill warriors simping hectically in every direction posting clips left right and centre of how good the game is. This overshadows the voice of the concerned users who want a finished product as opposed to a unfinished one.

Trust me I tried to love the game tried to play it until i got fed-up and went back to Baldur's Gate 3 which is 10 times better than this. Game development should never be about hardware but optimising for the hardware in question. Its not about brute forcing an already bad game. Imagine being served an under cooked meal and you say because i am hungry i will eat it quick. A game that hammers an RTX4090 and an I9 14900K is not worth your time. No matter the hardware a game should run well or else don't release it for that hardware. I personally hate the Series S and wont take back my comments about tit but this case is a situation of a publisher who doesn't care.

Don't buy the game don't play it until fixed, a terrible release and inexcusable.

Sigh!!!!!!
