Let me share with you a brief account on a game I played a while back a game that I have a somewhat weird experience with. Marvels Avengers was released in 2020 as an action role playing game, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Published by Square Enix. It runs on Last gen and current gen consoles together with PC. I chose to play this title on my old last gen Xbox to see how it would be also mainly due to space not being available for me on other consoles at the time. Time for the ggs:
Graphics:
Its without a doubt that the game does look good and very much presentable. To be fair its actually solid in this department however its very blurry on a last gen machine in my account being the Xbox One S. I would suggest you play it on any other hardware than the One S. I did check from Digital Foundry to see how it would be on other consoles and at the time seemed to run best on a PS5 and Xbox Series X having a slightly higher pixel count but unstable framerate. But that was then games get patches and so on however if you want more info on this regard please check them out.
Gameplay
This to me takes the cake for the game, I had a considerable amount of fun playing as various marvel characters. I didn't expect it to be so good it actually took me by surprise. I really don't have much to add on here best you experience it yourself. But incase and perhaps Its your first time hearing of this game, to give you to understand you do play this from a 3rd person perspective, the camera is indeed like any other open world with a full 360 degree swivel around your character and environment. Please check out the below gameplay videos to get a glimpse of what to expect for you if you intend to play this as a first timer.
Story
If you have been reading some of the reviews you might have picked up that I am against game movies or movie games i.e either of the former or later crossing over to become a game or movie. Here's my argument Marvels movies and comics have been there for ages and have set the footprint of what they are all about. I find it difficult for a video game which would be a derivative of a movie to have its own set story path that would be better than what the movie would have done. I agree some games turned out well like Spider-Man but not in every case as it took Spider-Man games a long time and only until Insomniac to be really meaningful so to speak. Ok so with all that considered and without spoiling for you I really don't like the Story. Its like when I saw the God of War Ragnarok Thor and being used to the Marvels movie Thor I just didn't like the prospective character. Even Thor in this game just doesn't cut it for me. Let a movie be a movie and a game be a game. I can say much but even if they were to replicate the Marvels story as is it would be just a playable movie for me which isn't what I like.
Overall its a fine game if you are gameplay orientated but not a convincing package. Have a blast.
