Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5

Released: 20 October 2023

Platform: PlayStation 5

Developer: Insomniac Games

Graphics

Here its a definite visual difference compared to the Remaster and Miles Morales but its not drastic but more of a refinement especially coming from the Miles Morales rendition. I am just going to cut to the chase in this quick review and call it Spider-Man 2 and leave the Marvel's part out a bit. The lighting in Spider-Man 2 is properly done to suit the time of day and more importantly the building interiors whereby you can see within from without really capture a proper 3d effect. Not much to say here but i did notice that when playing the game at 4k 30 just like the other two you get very rich visuals with the crispiness however it wont be satisfactory during heavy action scenes. Best stick to 60fps or higher if your tv or monitor supports because it is after all a heavily fast paced action oriented game and therefor 30fps would just slow things down.

Gameplay

This like all Spider-Man's is the heart and soul of the game we all play for that web-swinging feel and those amazing boss fights and quick time events (qtes). Its flows and its jus perfect.

Personally i didn't encounter bugs at all. Some people did, its jus lucky me i guess. None much to say here but they basically took what worked before and enhanced it more with new suits, skills and just an overall interesting play style.

Story

Its very good for the most part and has twists suitable to what insomniac wanted to achieve by differentiating themselves from what the movies do telling their own tale of the same universe we already relate to. Those twists and surprises are what kept me going. My only complaint is the portrayal of Peter's character which seemed somewhat ungrounded as if he wasn't even spiderman. I understand there is now recently a shift to now making Miles the main Spider-Man but Peter lacked the strength and grit we would have expected, Miles seemed more mature and focused holding Peter's hand in every crucial moment and that was good but Peter seemed lost and confused through out.

Spiderman 2 is when love and art marry each other and you can see it and can have full confidence in investing in the game. All things considered it is my game of the year not representative of everyone's opinion at subjective reviews but just my personal preference.
