Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands (today)

Updated: Sep 5, 2022

Hello and welcome to subjective reviews, I must say I missed sharing my thoughts with you on gaming as I am mostly busy with streaming. To cut to the chase when it comes to Ghost Recon games I had played breakpoint first which is the latest entry of the two. Wildlands has been out now for about 5 years but I decided to drop back in time to this title and see if its impressive as Breakpoint. As usual I will be focusing on three elements I consider paramount to gaming which are what you see first (Graphics), how you think the game is playing before your eyes (gameplay), and what pokes your curiosity of what comes next or what it's all about (story). These three form your first impressions and determine your buying or rental decision. Here's my brief account on this:

Graphics

For an early 2017 release I must say it holds up very well. Apart from the well tailored cutscenes the character models of your team members and even NPCs are properly done. While I am not a huge fan of character creation the model presets have good granular detail with good customization options. Its not the best compared to 2022 standards but certainly holds up today. The only complaint I have is the performance which is still locked at 30fps plus coupled with the dated gameplay which kind of make it feel jarring to the eyes metaphorically typing. And on that note it takes us to:

Gameplay

It's very much playable but the gameplay mechanics show signs of having seen better days and having 30fps just exacerbates the situation. Apart from this though I really enjoy this and these types of games because of the open world nature and the variety of ways you can take down your enemies and the freedom you hardly get in many titles. You can choose to be stealthy, air combat(fly planes helicopters etc.) , ground drive by shootouts and generally a lot can be done here. It's also a fun game to play with friends. It's the variety of options to approach your enemies and the freedom that makes the gameplay very cool. To give you to understand its like a GTAV (if you have played GTAV) but in military.

Story

While it may be something you have seen in the movies its still very solid. You have a huge roster of drug Lords to takedown and the purpose is very obvious: take down the cartel. It is this that may put off one up for intriguing, captivating and innovative story narratives but it's in the how you deal with the enemy that makes the game enjoyable. It is vast with a worthy game length and re-playability value again so to type. Mission dispatch instructions are well articulated pretty much what you would expect from a Tom Clancy game.

Ghost recon wildlands is a very good title that's also not server based as Breakpoint and it does look and play great for the most part. It would be nice if the 30fps cap is removed and just optimized (for free not $70) to modern machines. With that said take care and be sure to try this out.
